Yesterday I had the opportunity to watch the very end of the Maryland State High School Golf Championships at Potomac Ridge. The place looked amazing, especially with the very full parking lot. But more importantly it reminded me of a music festival, there were people all over the property just hanging out and enjoying a spectacular day. It was fun just driving in and seeing some of the tee shots – the ones I never make!

Mike Harvey and all of the staff at Potomac Ridge do a fantastic job everyday, and it showed perfectly yesterday. I spoke with several coaches as well as a couple of the contestants and everyone was very pleased. These events are the future of golf – these are not only the golfers of tomorrow, but also of today.

To prove my point is the 2nd place winner in the girls’ category, Mckenzie Cutter. Mckenzie is a Junior Member at Potomac Ridge. And she has a fifth, a fourth, and now a second place. Next year – Mike is predicting a first! She is the one all the way to the right in this picture. I spoke to Mckenzie and some of the other girls and they were all very nice and very professional. It is inspiring (ok, also scary) to watch them golf!
Thanks to Mike and John and all the staff for a great event and for being strong advocates of youth golf. This was a special event for us and for all of the families and especially the competitors.

Greetings fellow faithful Friday Morning Irregulars!
For those of you who are new: The Friday Morning Irregulars is a very loose band of early morning golfers – very early.. We meet at one of the Atlantic Golf courses and play nine holes in a spectacular format - can you say BINGO – BANGO – BONGO? – and we are done early enough to get you to work by 10:30 or thereabouts. The cost is $15 – and the only trick there is that I no longer make change! Finally, this is NEVER cancelled due to rain. Even if you don’t show up, I will be there. I think one time Chris Muhly and I both drove to Potomac Ridge in a monsoon for … coffee. But I will be there – even if you are not.
..although most of the regular irregulars have figured this out and are bringing exact change….
THIS WEEK: we are meeting at South River. Please try to be there by no later than 7:15 as we will go out pretty quick after that. Bring business cards and a good joke if you have one! I dare you to stump me on golf jokes!
Hope to see you there!
FINALLY….. Two weeks left until the Classic! Yeah! I hope that any of you that are interested will call me and let me know – there is still space left! The economy has hit everything and we are no exception. While we do have 200 golfers there will be space if you are interested – and we will sell singles and twosomes this year.
Here is one of a seven part series that Irregular Doug Keim filmed at the tournament last year – Stay tuned for more!
and PLEASE check out, or even better – become a ”fan” – the Classic Facebook fan page! Let me know what you think!
